SVG Green Party congratulates NDP for breaking ties with Taiwan

SVG Green Party wishes to convey its congratulations to the NDP in their historic decision to cut ties with Taiwan as of 23 August 2016. It was long overdue. Taiwan has been a parasite sucking the economic lifeblood out of our country for decades.

The NDP must show that they truly are patriotic and call for Taiwan to pay back the billions of dollars in fish tax they have avoided paying for over 30 years.

SVG Green Party has been calling for the Taiwan Ambassador to ‘pack his bags and go home’ since 2005. Taiwan’s presence in SVG has held back our development and kept our people poor.

There is yet another toxic parasite in our country.

Just cutting ties with Taiwan is not enough to show that the NDP love our country and believe in putting Vincentians’ needs first. Taiwan is the same as the super-rich of Mustique and Canouan: they are both not paying tax.

For the nation to believe that the NDP has really changed, and that the NDP is patriotic, the NDP must also publicly denounce and break ties with the super-rich of Mustique and Canouan and call for them, not just to pay tax, but also pay back the billions of dollars in tax they have avoided paying for over 20 years with their blanket tax and customs duties exemptions.

The NDP must call for the abolition of the Mustique Act No 48 of 2002 and call for the end of blanket tax and customs duties exemptions given to the super-rich of Mustique and Canouan.

Mr Ivan O’Neal has paid two visits to the Chinese Embassy in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago. They are very friendly and China is willing to help SVG with significant investment to develop our infrastructure, economy and education system, and help us set up our own billion dollar tuna fishing industry.
