St. Vincent and the Grenadines worse off than pre-independence

Leader of SVG Green Party, Ivan O’Neal, Independence Message 2018

St. Vincent and the Grenadines worse off than pre-independence
After 39 years of independence, SVG has been mashed up by corruption. Our country is significantly worse off now than pre-independence.
So where have we gone wrong? We have allowed successive poor quality governments - in 1979 (Labour Party) and 1984 (New Democratic Party) and in 2001 (Unity Labour Party) – to mash up SVG with ineffective policies and leadership.
Material gain and utter selfishness from 1979 to 2018 have destroyed SVG. Foreigners have been allowed to operate safely under a high level of corruption to take advantage of our country’s resources.
Taiwan is our worst enemy from within. Taiwan came to SVG in 1981 and today Taiwan owes the SVG Treasury EC$51 billion fish tax for the period of 2001 to 2018. The Superrich White Migrants of Mustique are also the enemy of our people and country, taking lots from our country and contributing little.

Warrant Officer Ivan O’Neal BSc (hons), MSc, MBA, Leader of SVG Green Party, very strongly contends that we must break the chain of brutal corruption in SVG that has brought the worst social, economic and financial circumstances in living memory in our country.

The greater the corruption, the greater is the level of poverty and destitution in SVG. The indigenous SVG black population has been pushed to the ground, and many are unable to provide food for their family and send their children to school.

For the period of 2001 to 2018, the highly incompetent and unqualified ULP Ministers of Finance have been unable to grow the fiscal operations of SVG beyond EC$1 billion (Source SVG budgets Estimates 2001 to 2018) and this shows the ULP Regime is not competent or qualified to manage the financial affairs of SVG.

SVG urgently needs a qualified competent Minister of Finance to create jobs and fiscal surplus for sustainable development and a high standard of living like that in Singapore. Current laws and policies in SVG are inflicting profound grief, suffering and loss on our people.

Projection for Capital Expenditure in Education for 2020 is EC$4.7 million (Source SVG Budget Estimate 2018). This is quite outrageous and shows that the ULP Regime has scant regard for the crucial importance of high-quality education in SVG.

Our country’s children are generally weak on mathematics and physics, yet the ULP Regime will only spend EC$4.7 million in 2020 on education, whilst allowing the parasite Taiwan to get away with not paying EC$51 billion fish tax. This is outrageous.

Be positive - we will see the back of Taiwan and the Superrich White Migrants of Mustique who thrive on corruption and whose presence in our country is a major obstacle to long-term social and economic development for all who live in SVG.

We must stop foreigners and corruption taking over our country and protect and preserve it for our children, grandchildren and future generations.

May God bless SVG.

Ivan O’Neal BSc (Hons), MSc, MBA
